Sixteen is the legal age for driving in the US – here in RSA, it is actually 18.
But I was one of those rare anomalies who was in no rush to get behind the wheel. Contrary to what people may think, not being able to drive was not a liability to me. I was able to get to where I needed to be, and if anything, I learnt to prioritise and to manage my time.

I got my driver’s licence at the ripe old age of 32. And not because I wanted a car, or I wanted to be able to run(drive) away from my life. I got it to better enable me to look after my elderly parents.

I finished high school at 16 though (well, it was a few weeks before my 17th birthday, but yeah, technically still 16).
